Staying Radiant, Classmates

We hope this newsletter finds you safe and healthy amid this pandemic. A special thanks to our Radiance classmates that are among the first responders, doctors, nurses, medical specialists, hospital and emergency
services workers, and volunteers.  A big THANK YOU for all you do.

Classmates, I am hopeful that you are finding calm and a new “Zen” as you shelter in your homes and embrace your families and loved ones.  Whether you are sheltering with your parents, your children, alone, or with your significant other please stay safe and be kind to one another.  We still have a long road to travel with this pandemic.

Throughout this pandemic, technology has played a huge part in helping us stay connected.  Thank goodness for technology which allows us to communicate with our loved ones via Facetime, Zoom and Skype, just to name a few.  Social media has taken the edge off being quarantined by keeping us informed, by allowing us to enter social media challenges, laughing at other folks’ posts, praying, and having in home church services.

This too shall pass so, Classmates, stay vigilant, safe and follow the rules in order to keep us on track for being able to open our doors and enjoy our lives once again.

Blessings, Peace, Unity,

Shine on Radiance!

Question: What percentage of our class contributed to our 2018 class gift?

Answer:   Eh, I don’t know.   But. according to our class treasurer, Wayne Green, the Alumni Office reported that 64 members of our class contributed about $43k for our 35thReunion. Of course, we would love to do more every time! We learned some valuable lessons from this reunion season. The main lesson, I think, is to plan way ahead of time to maximize our contributions to our “Home By The Sea”.  Since our next reunion gift will probably be double our last gift, we can work over the next five years to make it happen. So, there is no time like the present to start planning. Our class leaders have been busy getting things in gear.  You can jump right in to the fundraising efforts by grabbing some Hampton Institute Radiance gear and getting your tickets for the October 26thcomedy event at Cozzy’s Comedy Club.  Sport the Red and Gold at the comedy club and show that class spirit for Homecoming!

Here is another idea to increase donations.  Some of us may work for companies that offer a matching gifts program.  If you are unsure if your company has such a program, please make it a point to find out THIS WEEK.  These programs provide a way for companies to support organizations that are important to their employees. Some companies match dollar for dollar up to a specific amount.  You can max your donation to Hampton at whatever level your company matches and potentially DOUBLE your donation.  If your company will double your $1,000 donation…well, that’s a no-brainer. Find out what the policies are for your company.

A couple of events will have transpired by the time this newsletter is published.  So, if you went to the Biennial Reunion in Chicago, or Alumni Day on campus, please share your pictures with radiance1983@gmail.comso that the pictures can be posted to the Radiance FB page.

Until next time,

Hampton Hugs!

Newsletter — Hampton University

Radiance Classmates,
Didn’t we have a blast at our 35 Year Class Reunion?  It was awesome!  Kudos to Debra Flores for outstanding leadership for an awesome team!  And of course, we just could not let those memories float into oblivion.

Here is the link for our pictures:

Whether you made it to the celebration or not, enjoy our reunion pictures.  If you attended the reunion, you will be receiving a group picture shortly.  If you did not attend, you can order the group picture or any of the other pictures directly from the photographer, and they are free to download.  Easy!

So, let’s talk about the 40th.  Let’s start saving for our class gift.  Be creative!
Thanks Tanya, Wayne, and Phyllis for leading our class.

Homecoming 2018 will be held October 26 – 28.  Hotel accommodations are on your own.  We will, however, be hosting a Friday night Radiance event.  Check for details on our Events page on the website.

Let’s stay in touch.  Look for the newsletter several times per year, just to keep up with one another.  If you happen to know of class members who are not connected to the group, please forward the website information to them and have them connect with the 2023 reunion committee at radiance1983class@gmail.com.  Make sure to include your married name, maiden name, nickname (if any), and any address, phone, and email updates.

So, whether you reconnected at the Meet & Greet, our Class Meeting, the “All White with a Touch of Blue” Day Party (you never know when you’ll need to do “The Hustle”), Chilin’ and Catching Up on the patio, Alumni Banquet, or singing along with Twana and shouting “Amen” to the sermon by Rev. Mike Armstrong at the Sunday Praise and Worship breakfast, I hope you all had a great time.  It is, and it was, “good for brethren (and the sisterhood) to gather together”!

Say Amen somebody!

Peace!
